| Fishin' For Jamie - Raising Money, Fighting Cancer |
|
By Caitlyn Boza Fulcher, a Savannah native, passed away in 2007 after a three-year fight with melanoma. In 2005, Fulcher’s family and friends hosted a fishing tournament to raise money for his treatment, and the tournament has evolved into an annual charity event. Proceeds from this year’s tournament will go to the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion to fund melanoma research and aid those who suffer from the disease. Last year’s tournament raised over $10,000 for the cause, and organizers hope their success will continue this year. The tournament will begin on Friday with a captain’s meeting at 7 p.m., and the fishing will begin at 6 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Weigh-ins will be at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. A kingfish tournament will also take place on Saturday. There will be a big fish prize for each class - adults and children - on both Saturday and Sunday, along with awards for first, second and third place. Food, games, entertainment, prizes, and a raffle will also be featured at the event. Fishin’ for Jamie is seeking assistance with the provision of food, beverages, raffle prizes, and monetary donations.
